Welcome to the Happy Hookbills Ranch
During the
twentieth century, habitat destruction caused many species of animals to decline. In some cases, it has lead
to extinction. In a small way, through captive breeding, we help to preserve a few species as their habitat
is destroyed.

There are many birds that can survive in a variety of environments. However,
many others require a specific environment and diet. Some birds are quite adaptable...others are not. Two
out of three birds are forest dwellers. Most species of parrots are forest dwellers and unable to adapt once their
home is gone. Once their home is gone their populations dwindle. Dwindling bird populations leads to the
extinction of certain species.
Commercial logging has drastically increased in the last 30 years.
The need for paper, for farm and ranch land and for city expansion are all factors. The clearing of land leaves
few nesting sites and little food for our animal friends. We don't dispute that sovereign nations have the right to feed and
house their populations but many times it is at the expense of forest lands. Humans have pushed many animals to
the brink of extinction and beyond. Through captive breeding, our flock helps insure the survival of birds
for whom there is limited room in the wild.

Happy Hookbills Ranch's website is undergoing extensive reconstruction.
Please excuse the chaos and come back soon to check out our new look.
UPDATE: Due to recent changes in regulations governing birds, we no longer sell our babies
directly to individuals. Our babies are now sold in select pet stores only.
